A few years ago, I read a book called "The Shack," in this book the main character, Mac, met God- and God was portrayed as a 60 year old, black woman.
Not the typical picture we match to God.
A few nights ago, when I was at a worship service- I thought of this image of God as a Mother, hugging me tightly and warmly.
While God is to be perceived as our Father, we should also remember that God has motherly characteristics as well. For God is a combination of both a Father and Mother- a single unit that makes Him our Creator.
We were Created in God's image as men and women.
Genesis 1:27
“Humankind was created as God's reflection:
in the divine image God created them; female and male, God made them."
God is compassionate and caring for His children.
Hosea 11:3-4
God: “Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, I who took them up in my
arms;
but they did not know that I healed them. I led them with cords of
human kindness,
with bands of love. I was to them like those who lift
infants to their cheeks.
I bent down to them and fed them.”
God is comforting!
Isaiah 66:13
God: “As a mother comforts her child, so I will comfort you;
you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.”
We are engraved in God's heart!
Isaiah 49:15
God: “Can a woman forget her nursing child, or show no compassion for
the child of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget
you.”
As well, we all know the saying- Mother Knows Best.
As God is our Heavenly Father, and we are to depend on Him to give us strength, wisdom, and courage. We should also depend on Him to help us increase our motherly traits as well, with compassion, patience, and love.
Have a blessed day,
<3KM
